Things to do in 's Hertogenbosch

We were excited for our day trip to 's Hertogenbosch, and it ended up being a full itinerary. We started with the Bossche Bollen Experience, wanting to learn more about these local pastries. After building up an appetite, we had lunch at Eetbar DIT. In the afternoon, we took a guided walking tour of the city, then explored the Christmas market and visited St. John's Cathedral. To finish the day, we had dinner at restaurant Zoetelief, stopping for a drink beforehand at the Secret Bar & Kitchen.

's-Hertogenbosch, also known as Den Bosch, is a city that invites you to discover its culture, history, and food. As the capital of the province of North Brabant, this historic city is a mix of old architecture and modern charm, making it a great place if you who want to experience Dutch heritage. And off we went for a lovely day...

Sint-Janskathedraal

One of the city's most famous landmarks is the Sint-Janskathedraal, a Gothic church that dominates the skyline. Its statues and interior show the craftsmanship of the past. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower to get a panoramic view of the city's network of narrow streets and old buildings.

Explore the World of Hieronymus Bosch

If you love art, Den Bosch has the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center, which is dedicated to the works of the 15th-century painter Hieronymus Bosch. This centre offers a fascinating look into the artist's mind, with copies of his strange and mysterious paintings.

Bossche Bollen on the Binnendieze

The city's historical heart, with the market square, is a nice place where past and present come together. You can experience the local market or try some culinary delights like a traditional 'Bossche Bol' — a pastry filled with whipped cream and coated with a layer of chocolate.

A cruise along the Binnendieze, a network of ancient waterways, provides a new perspective on Den Bosch. The whisper boats glide under buildings, offering unique views of the city's history, whispered by knowledgeable guides.

Culture and Nature

The Museum Quarter, with the Design Museum Den Bosch and the Noordbrabants Museum, is a cultural enclave that cannot be missed. It shows a diverse range of collections, from modern and contemporary design to masterpieces that illustrate the history of Brabant.

If you are looking for green spaces, the city's parks, such as Het Bossche Broek, are the place where you want to be. Nature enthusiasts can chill in the beauty of marshlands, a short distance from the busy city centre.

Shopping and dining

If you love shopping, Den Bosch is a great place to explore, with its mix of boutique stores and upscale shops, especially in the lovely Uilenburg district. After a day of sightseeing or shopping, you’ll find plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the city’s vibe.

You can find all information on the very nice website of Zin in Den Bosch.

Our day in 's Hertogenbosch

We started our day parking our car at 's Hertogenbosch station, which was only a 10 minute walk to the old city center.

11.00 'Bossche Bollen Belevenis'

Beneath the town hall of Den Bosch, in the Council Cellar, you'll find the most whipped-up mini-museum in the world. A true experience about nothing less than: the Bossche Bol! You might think that there's not much to tell about such a simple pastry, but nothing could be further from the truth.

The Sugary Secrets of the Bossche Bol

Wherever you go in the Netherlands, everyone knows the Bossche Bol. But what is it all about? What is the secret of the Bossche Bol? What is the magic? This museum tells you all about it. With a healthy dose of humor and a touch of silliness.

This interactive experience is a great activity to do with kids and it's not too long. And of course, the experience ends with coffee, tea, and a delicious Bossche Bol.

We shared a bottle of Quintaluna Verdejo Rueda. This dry white wine was aromatic and fruity.
